A Landscape That Inspires
Luggala Arts: Artist-In-Residence Programme
At Luggala, we are proud to continue the legacy of cultural stewardship championed by previous generations. From the La Touches’ refined 18th-century architecture to Garech Browne’s vibrant celebration of Irish music, poetry, and storytelling, Luggala has long been a refuge for creativity and expression.
Artists residencies at Luggala are by invitation only, offered to those who wish to develop their practice through an advanced and deeply personal dialogue with the landscape. Historically the Estate has been a catalyst for creativity, and today it continues as a site of ongoing cultural creation- where artists are given space, time and inspiration to respond to the rugged beauty of the Wicklow Mountains. Each residency is an opportunity to contribute to a living tradition of art shaped by place.
Our most recent resident, Hughie O’Donoghue, pictured here in his Mayo studio with the series of paintings “Original Sins’ which are currently on display in The Shaw Room, National Gallery of Ireland. During his time at Luggala Hughie completed another striking series of paintings that capture Luggala across the seasons, paying tribute to its ever-changing mood and enduring mystery.
